On Dirt and Worms

Create Anyway, an acrostic

“Create anyway” she hears reverberating in her mind throughout the day. The

Reminder to make art, find beauty, take up noticing the

Everyday moments that make up her life.

“After the dishes are done,” she tells herself. “And the

Trash gets taken out, and dinner is made, and the kids are in bed.”

Except:

A rainstorm just passed and she couldn’t help but

Notice the way her son squealed with excitement to put on rainboots and dig for worms in the dirt with 

Yellow dandelions peppering his backyard playground. A reminder to them both that

Winter has passed and spring has come, just as God promised it would.

And so she left the dishes and created anyway, a memory right there in the backyard among the

Yellow dandelions, and the muddy rainboots, with a little boy and his new pet worm.
